Aspen, Colorado – April 17, 2017 – The City of Aspen and Pitkin County will be hosting an open house Thursday, April 27 from 4-6pm to get public input on the Upper Roaring Fork River Management Plan. The event will be at the Old Powerhouse Property.
The Upper Roaring Fork River Management Plan is a City and County plan that prioritizes operational, management, and physical options that improve the health of the Roaring Fork River. Identifying, vetting, and obtaining community support for viable, implementable options that reflect community values and priorities is critical to the success of this plan.
For years, studies have shown that the health of the Roaring Fork River in Aspen is degrading and it continues to be an issue of high concern among citizens. Through the City’s stormwater program, the County’s Healthy Rivers and Streams Fund, and the City and the County’s parks and open space projects, much has been done to improve specific reaches of this valued resource. However, degraded riparian areas and low flows during critical dry periods continue to cause adverse impacts on the River.
