Energy Efficiency

The City of Aspen is committed to engaging our entire community in energy awareness through community events, local schools, newsletters, and online information. We encourage your participation  and welcome your input.

For questions contact Jeff Rice, Utilities Energy Efficiency Manager at 970-920-5118.

Rebates & Incentives

You can save energy AND money by taking advantage of a variety of programs, including rebates on energy efficient applicances.

Renewable Incentives

Renewable energy offsets energy consumption, and we encourage you to apply for assistance  with the cost of installing renewable energy generators on your property.

An energy audit prior to installing ground source heating and cooling (GSHP) or solar PV will maximize your investment, and is required to receive our assistance. Aspen is partnering with CORE to bring you a single application and rebate source.

Appliance Rebates

In addition to the Federal Tax Rebate, follow the Appliance Rebate Program to receive rebates for energy efficient appliances:

Appliance
 Rebate
Refrigerator  $75
Dishwasher  $75
Clothes Washer  $150

Alternate service providers

Customers of alternate service providers should see Rebates and Incentives at a Glance, and contact your service provider for further information:

  • Holy Cross Energy
  • Community Office for Resource Efficiency (CORE)
  • Source Gas
  • Xcel Energy
  • Governor’s Energy Office (GEO)

It Starts at Home (PDF)

Aspen’s energy efficiency starts in our homes. Poor insulation can decrease efficiency; using Compact Florescent Lights and unplugging unused electronics will save money and energy.

Not sure how to get started?  Don't Guess! Get an Energy Audit!

Aspen has partnered with the Building Performance Institute (BPI) and Colorado Mountain College to train certified energy auditors through the professional building performance analysts program.

A professional BPI qualified energy audit is a "whole house as a system" analysis incorporating health and safey with combustion appliance testing, CO detection, and gas leak monitoring.  The audit uncovers areas for improvement throughout your home or building.

Our audit program will reimburse up to $350 of the cost of an audit when you act on suggested improvements in your home or business. Contact audit@aspenenergyefficiency.com to request an audit. A BPI auditor will contact you. Have questions? Contact info@aspenenergyefficiency.com.

Couple the audit incentives with utility, local, state, and federal incentives and save even more on making efficiency improvements.

Compact Flourescent Lights

We challenge you to replace your 5 most frequently-used lights with Compact Flourescent Lights (CFL). The energy-saving technology has been upgraded, now available in a variety of styles and wattage. When the CFL burns out, please recycle it properly.

Energy Star

Energy Star is a nationally-recognized organization known best for their efficiency standards with appliances, electronics, and home energy systems. The City of Aspen is a 2009 Pitkin ENERGY STAR New Homes Partner, a resource for energy efficient home building in the upper valley.
